The New Xbox 360 Slim - known as the 360S - is here and the Xbox 360 community is divided. Some fans are ecstatic and others are saying "big whoop, I already haz an Xbox 360." The new Xbox 360S might seem like a gimmick, but following are 5 problems solved by the new 360S gaming console.

1. RRoD

The infamous Red Rings of Death - known as the RRoD - killed lots of original Xbox 360s and was due to lots of hardware issues caused by Microsoft. Lots of fans hoped that the Xbox 360 Elite would be the RRoD killer, but while the 360 Elite didn't sport the same cheap thermal paste of other Xbox 360's it still had the infamous Microsoft X-clamps and suffered from RRoD as well. The new Xbox 360S upped the efforts of the Xbox 360 Elite and did more than add better thermal paste - it totally redesigned the motherboard of the Xbox console. Whether the Xbox 360S totally kills the RRoD remains to be seen, but with the new MOBO design, it's sure to be a better solution to the RRoD problem.

2. The Xbox 360S is Kinect Ready

For those who have been living under a rock for the last year - and some change - Microsoft is set to launch a new motion controlled peripheral called the Xbox Kinect that - get this - doesn't need controllers to be operated. The Xbox 360S will help to bring the Kinect to more Xbox 360 fans with less hassle by adding an Xbox Kinect port to the Xbox 360S. It's likely that original Xbox 360 users will have to buy some dongle add-on in order to enjoy the Xbox Kinect on their non -360S consoles, but Xbox 360S owners won't have this problem.

3. More Hard Drive Space

As the Xbox 360 continues to evolve, it's becoming a gaming console that is getting more and more hard drive dependent. "Back in the day" and Xbox 360 user was able to get by with an Xbox 360 Arcade - no hard drive - and the original 20GB hard drive of the Xbox 360. With the ability to have more game saves and the ability to actually save full Xbox 360 games to the hard drive, the 250GB hard drive of the new 360S gives more breathing room for hardcore gamers and offers more than 10Xs the hard drive space of the original Xbox 360 console.

4. Goodbye faulty power brick

As problematic - and sometimes as expensive - as the original Xbox 360 hardware is the Xbox 360 power brick. The big clunky Xbox 360 power cord has lost a bit of weight over the years, but still remains large and
equally problematic with overheating, cooling problems, and remaining a trip magnet. The new Xbox 360S has done away with the two corded clunky power brick and has replaced it with a brick-less 1 cord power adapter that is sure to be less of a hassle.

5. New design FTW

While the other solutions provided by the new Xbox 360S console might be a bit more serious, the new design of the Xbox 360S solves a very unique problem that might be equally important for Microsoft. Microsoft has pretty much kept the same overall design over the years while Sony's PlayStation has added a slim model and the Nintendo Wii went black. While the Xbox 360 did undergo a color switch with its black Xbox 360 Elite consoles, users were forced to shell out more cash for the 360 Elite than the original Xbox 360. By changing to the design of the Xbox 360S, Microsoft was able to breathe new life into the Xbox 360 brand while giving users a cool new console.
