Prior to the release of Super Mario Galaxy 2, the game was often ridiculed by gamers and critics alike, for being identical to the things we had seen before. Now that it's here we can assure you that the game doesn't suffer because of it.

Story
Although this game is labeled as a sequel it has almost nothing to do with original, aside from the occasional reference that assumes you played the first. The story on the other hand is nothing new, Bowser kidnaps peach, and you've got to do everything in your plumber power to save her. You could say this is a downside but Mario games have never really been played for their story. It was just something that was there for the sake of being there.

Gameplay
It's obvious that this game was built from the same engine as the first, however there wasn't much wrong with the original to look at that as a bad thing. The game features some new power-ups in addition to the return of Mario's old friend Yoshi. But the part players should be most interested in is the levels. This time around you have a massive variety of levels to choose from that all require something different from the player in terms of skill. On a minor note player 2's controls have been upgraded and he/she can now aid Mario by drawing items closer to (or further) from him.

Soundtrack
Nintendo's legendary composer, Koji Kondo makes his return for this galactic Mario adventure. The score borrows many tunes from the original game but features loads of new music that adds those final touches of perfection to the already amazing game.

Graphics
The developers haven't done much with the graphics this time around, though the levels present themselves in an overall greater manner, you're not really looking at a HD experience here. However, like with the gameplay and story, these aren't the vital parts of a Mario adventure so why complain?

Overall
As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, this game offers a new experience to players but only if they're willing to look past the lack there of engine, and graphical updates. There's a lot of fun to be had with this game and the levels certainly offer the Super Mario charm that everyone has grown to love. So do yourself a favor and check this game out!

Super Mario Galaxy 2 recieves a 8.5 out of 10
