In the world of gaming, fanboys just can't seem to keep quiet if a
company they don't like has positive or good news to share. And the
list of companies a fanboy doesn't like encompasses every other company
in existence that doesn't manufacture their favorite console or produce
games exclusively for their favorite console. So it was no surprise
yesterday when fanboys went bonkers over Aaron Greenberg tweeting about
the sales of
Halo 3 and how good they were in comparison to some of the PS3's best franchises.
Aaron
tweeted the harmless, yet boastful, "Just in from research team (NPD):
Halo 3 has outsold Resistance 1 + 2, Uncharted 1+2, Killzone 2 and God of War III
COMBINED….wow", yesterday and it caused quite a stir. It got so bad
yesterday that Sony fanboys, in an attempt to reassure themselves that "Xbox
teh sucks h4rD", began putting together articles like "GT 1-3 Sold More
than all of Halo". What has this world come to that this is how we act
just because someone else shares a stat?
Competition is great and
honestly one of the biggest driving forces in the gaming industry. It's
why we're all about to have motion-controls and the PS3 has trophies,
and the 360 controller is an evolved version of the SNES to dual shock
to 360. There's no need to get your panties in a wad just because
another company has news that may be positive to them. Do you get a
check cut from these companies every time you defend them like a rabid
four year-old?
And just for the record, the next time someone
wants to rattle off random numbers from some company's sales to you,
simply point out that the original Super Mario Bros on the NES sold 40.23 million copies alone; and in total the Super Mario
Bros franchise has topped well over 152 million. By comparison, Sony
and Xbox are still in diapers when it comes to a successful franchise.
And maybe that seems appropriate based on the behavior of their fanbase.
